The Mormon Mommy Bloggers

Has anyone read this article from Salon (be careful, there's an ad with sound at the beginning, in case you get scared easily, like me) about how some women have secret fetishes with Mormon Mommy blogs.

I have been asked a. lot. lately why I blog so much.

It's something I've been pondering a lot lately... I do see another "set" of blog entries about that one.

I actually don't tend to love those blogs.  I like to dabble in them.  There are a few that I really enjoy but for the most part if you're constantly saying how perfect your life is, my mind tends to think things ARE NOT that perfect and that you're building a dream world.

I sometimes wonder if I would fit into that type of category.  I mean, I really hope that my blog keeps my life fairly real.  When I peruse old blogs in their printed form I think I give a fairly even-handed approach to at least raising children.

Anyway, do you have an obsession with Mormon Mommy blogs, and do you know why?

  1. I hate to break it to you, lovey. But you ARE a Mormon Mommy Blogger. :) And so am I.

I do know what you mean...I am not in love with the fake perfect, but I didn't get that vibe from the article. I really think she is enamored with the Mormon lifestyle, because it really is so different from the norm.

I liked the last line "And if they help women like me envision a life in which marriage and motherhood could potentially be something other than a miserable soul-destroyihng trap, I say, "Right on."

Love that. I think you're furthering that cause as much as any NieNie or CJane or whoever else she mentioned that I've never heard of in my life, BTW.

  2. I do like those kinds of blogs a lot, and for just the reason the writer describes - they portray a wholesome, happy life. Kind of like a Disneyland life. My guess is that it is probably pretty spot on -- due to sharing common values. I feel like MY life, although not perfect, is pretty great too, so it is not so hard to believe.

You obviously are a mormon mommy blogger! But, I think you are such a realist and so sarcastic, less 'cutesy,'that you are kind of a different breed mormon mommy blogger.

    Both type are great!

  3. I read that article...and was thinking along these same lines.

I just don't enjoy the blogs she is talking about in her article.

Those women aren't real. They show the happy, perfect side of life...which I guess is good, but I think it's all a little too perfect.

Give me a real blog about real people anytime!

  4. I love your blog when I get to read it. I love how real and sarcastic you are because that is real and you come from a place of love. Thanks for posting and sharing.

I am not Mormon yet love NieNie and CJane and find such inspiration from them (and you too!)
