It is no secret that I am a HUGE fan of the Goodwill. In fact, Princess P is so proud of the Goodwill that she flaunts it when she gets things there. Like it’s Nordstroms. Should I be embarrassed about that?
Problem is, there’s no food at the Goodwill. Nor, would I want there to be.
Enter American Discount Foods. I’ve known about it for a while. It used to be further into Mesa — more of a pain to get to, but it’s closer now.
And it’s kind of scary. You never know what’s going to be there.
But my family are going to be eating pepperoni and hamburgers for the next 6 months, and boy were they cheap. Oh, and we’ve got enough popcorn for a while. Horray! 🙂
Let’s see, what did I pick up last week… I got:
Brown Sugar 69 cents/pound
Popcorn 69 cents/pound
Fish sticks 99 cents/pound
Corn dogs — I got like 6 of them for like 1.50
Cheese for 2 bucks/pound
Beans for 69 cents/pound
Small things of OJ 99 cents for 6
Small snack packages (great for Drew to take to school this summer) 10/$1
Hamburger patties 1.39/lb
Pepperoni 99 cents/lb
That’s the main stuff.
It’s not a place you’d want to take a lot of children with you (I bribed P with a princess book while we were there), because you need to focus on prices and what’s a good price (and what’s not, because there was a fair amount that isn’t, although their daily specials are usually pretty good).
Anyway, just a little tip. If you’re looking to get some foods for the cheap. The main thing is we really need to remember to have something with pepperoni (I do have a few recipes that require this, and they are all favorites — this one’s a recent favorite) weekly and lots of hamburgers, but with Summer coming I doubt that will be an issue.
