Also, these cans can be fairly expensive when not paired with a sale or a coupon, so I stock up when it’s less than 75 cents, or at LEAST less than a dollar. I keep about 20 cans on hand all the time. Of course, when our tomato bushes are going crazy (like right now) I don’t use very much of them, but they’re a staple for me in the fall/winter months.
I was hoping to can some of my own after my big canning night but we have a whole ton of cherry tomatoes, and not so many of the large ones (and the larger ones would be better for canning because you have to peel them first, and that would be a huge pain on the tiny ones).
I also keep some stewed tomatoes (about 9 cans), tomato paste (12 cans) and crushed tomatoes (3 cans) on hand, but the majority of mine is diced tomatoes.
