So there's writing "stamina" now? What exactly does that even mean? That they can write for a long time (physically actually being able to do that - which, I assume, is just practicing for state testing, ew). Or that they are able to create enough coherent thoughts to fill up a certain number of pages (which sounds worse than I mean - like practicing writing essays for, again, state testing). I remember when we were learning to write well and such, we had workbooks, and we were supposed to be up to a certain point each day, and if we didn't finish, you took it home to finish to have it ready for the next day. That was it so far as homework went - and that was fine. Also, this was in first grade, where we had daily free time, which rotated between the classroom and the free area (which had a tent you could read in - no joke).
I don't have kids, I don't get to really have an opinion on this, But I can guarantee you that the reason I still write as much as I do now (both on the computer and with pen and paper!) isn't because of practicing a ton while I was in school, it was because I just did it on my own growing up and loved it. Pretty sure you can't teach that. Some kids will like it and some won't. Giving them work to give them "stamina" really sounds like a sham.
