I’d agree to leave out the batting…too thick! Two pieces of your fabric should be absorbent enough. Heaven knows you live in a warm enough place and don’t need all the extra layers. Crocheting to match your blankets would be icing on the cake!

3. I would leave out the batting. We used the snuggle flannel and sewed it like a pillowcase (turn it right side out to hide the seams) and a friend did the crocheting around the edges (they matched our assorted blankets). We had enough absorbancy with the two layers of flannel.

I love your blankies and WOW on your taking the time to crochet them…I have 4 girls…I don’t think any of my blankies were as cute as yours…and I’ve got gobs now…(the word verification is my last name…odd…)
