Man, that is a bummer but I do LOVE the Costco return policy.

I should not have waited so long to return the mattress. I truly hope the certification means the smelly chemicals were not harmful, but like the other commenter, I simply do not believe something that smells so bad could be non-toxic. In the Costco reviews, I saw many comments about how smelly the mattress is, but the majority of reviews were positive, so I thought the negative comments were just over-sensitive people. Boy was I wrong.

Luckily I bought through Costco and returning was easy. I switched to a Nest big kids bed, which is actually a bit less expensive than 5 little monkeys. Only one night, but so far it is working out well. And NO smell.

While I will let this comment stand, I did contact 5 Little Monkeys who had this response:

Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention and we are very sorry that this person did not have a good experience with 5 Little Monkeys. Let me help clarify some of her concerns:

1. There can be a smell from the mattress for a number of days. Typically, this smell lasts only a few hours at the most, but can occasionally last several days. There is nothing to be concerned about.
2. When there are customers that want to return the mattress we typically ask for them to donate the mattress and we will give a full credit to them. If they are unable to find a place to donate, we will then have the local Junk King come and pick up the mattress. Not sure why exactly things didn’t run as smoothly with this process for her, but I am going to look into it.
3. Our mattresses are not toxic at all. Our foam is Certi-PUR US certified, which tests to be sure that no harmful chemicals are in the mattress. This is a very legitimate certification. Unlike Greenguard and some of the others, which are pay to play.

Our mission has always been to help families find a mattress that is ideal for their child. Although this particular customer found it from one of our competitors, we are still happy that they found what they were looking for that helps their child get the rest he/she needs.
