Honesty is always best. Be very clear with your doctor that you are interested to know what the hospital normally does. We have this type of case frequently, and parents are 100% fine with CPS but they may have to notify them.

What if you tested positive at your first prenatal appointment, but had already stopped before that, when you found out about the pregnancy. What will happen when i give birth, will cps get involved and social workers get involved? They do pee tests on me now but i haven't been smoking anything since i found out i was pregnant, i'm 19 weeks, don't know if i'm still testing positive or not, i don't know how long it would stay in my system, if i was using for anxiety and stuff almost daily. I live in CA, where it is legal but stopped as soon as i found out about my pregnancy but still tested positive. Can they take away my babies? This is my second. I never smoke during my pregnancy, neither one of them, i don't abuse or neglect my babies, live in clean house, take my son to all appointments, he is up to date on all shots, he has everything he needs, food, clothes, diapers, wipes, baby hygeine products, crib, lots of toys and more, spend lots of quality time with him, don't miss any prenatal appointments, go to my own appointments for mental health and everything else. I'm worried, my babies mean the world to me, i love them more than anything. I don't want them taken away.

I don't think anyone has said birth defects, that would be different than stillbirth. Stillbirth would be more something it does to the placenta/blood flow. I agree that studies are low as it is still illegal in most places (and is illegal federally) and parents don't want to admit to useage. Plus, studies need to be more long term, as most people anecdotally feel that it is more noticeable as kids have brain development in school.

I’ve read through this thread pretty carefully and just wanted to know if you have any cited sources linking the birth defect listed to marijuana usage. Our Dr. just today used the threat of stillbirth when telling my wife to stop smoking. She was using medicinally in CA but recently relocated to CT. Although still legal medicinally it is not nearly as well received during pregnancy. Everything he gave us listed animal testing as the main source, and each time they reference potential threats to the baby, they also immediately acknowledged the lack of proof/documented test results. Just looking for more info on this.

Also, I watched my brother and his pregnant girlfriend at the time defend both of them smoking weed and cigarettes while she was pregnant because they "researched" it. Disgusting. My oldest nephew was born 3lbs 3oz and needed surgery on his heart. Put your children first.

Thank you so much for posting this. I feel very strongly myself about Marijuana. I smoked it occasionally for years as a teen (I'm 33 now) because everyone around me was, I know exactly what it's about. I know how it destroys dreams, relationships, families. Yes, I'm talking about weed! It is not a harmless drug! Stop forcing your baby in your belly to it! Selfish. I agree with the benign environment. I wouldn't dye my hair or paint my nails while I was pregnant lol. It's for such a short period of time, why not?

Just to help with your studies of marijuana use and effects of it in babies, i have a theory that it can lead to turners syndrome in female babies. My ex-wife used heavily during her pregnancy( against my pleas and wishes). Long story short my daughter has turners syndrome, and struggles in school. I now have sole custody, but in my mind i think there is a direct link to weed and turners syndrome, and maybe this story can help in future studies.
