Once you have all the phonics down, I start with really small words to sound out.
One of the giant keys to kids is letting them experience doing something RIGHT. There is a huge feeling of accomplishment when they sound out a REAL WORD.
Start with small words like
Things like that.
Then, slowly move onto larger words.
The sounding out game from yesterday will help a lot with this.
Go get some books on reading at the library, they tend to have a lot of great lists for small words or good sight words (tomorrow!). I have a whole ring of sounding out lists that we go through daily.
Again, these are all small steps.
Realize I started working on phonics with P when she was 18 months. She’s almost 4… Again, that’s pretty small but phonics are easy to teach, even when they’re tiny.
