I listen to conference talks using the LDS Library app while I get ready in the morning.
This week, my favorite talk (although I loved it in conference too) was Elder Bednar’s Talk on the blessings of obedience, and more specifically the blessings of paying tithing.
Here’s a little tidbit:
I have friends that have had the tithing fairy come. A check shows up at their house, groceries when needed. That’s never happened to me, that I can remember.
But I have had SO many blesings, that I really strongly feel are related to my paying tithing*
1. Finding things at goodwill — just the other day I really wanted a biscuit/doughnut cutter. I almost bought one on Amazon. It was only like 8 bucks. But I realized that 8 bucks could head to ASU so I kept it in my checking account. A week later at goodwill I found one. The exact one I had looked at Goodwill for.
2. Proper care. I always think the less you have of something, the more you take care of it. Goes with money, or time. I think tithing helps us really think about what our money is doing for us.
3. Longevity. Who knows how much longer appliances or cars last because we pay tithing. We’ll never know, but I feel like it has worked for us.
Paying tithing can be hard, no one said it was easy but I was grateful for Elder Bednar for pointing these out. Do you pay tithing? What kind of blessings do you feel you receive?
*In the LDS church tithing is calculated as 10% of your “increase” — for us, that’s 10% of our income. Since we don’t raise chickens, we don’t have to haul those to the bishop. Maybe he’d like some kale though….
