This morning I was sweeping and mopping, wishing my mom was home so I could call her when I remembered the Power of Mom Podcasts. Ever since I gave my talk at church I’ve been praying for really specific things for my kids and things in my life and parenting is sure something I want to work on.
Honesty Alert: I had to stop reading their blog. I also had to stop reading some blogs associated with them. I felt like they gave a false sense of how great motherhood is and how anyone can do it, and you can just do it if you take their advice. It made me want to vomit.
But, in the right frame of mind, I think the Power of Moms can be a really powerful thing. As it was today. So, my new plan is on Mondays when I sweep and mom I will listen to one of their podcasts. They have podcasts on lots of different topics, and for lots of different ages (which is really good, because the top one was “Cherishing the Little Things” and that was NOT appealing, AT ALL. Today I listened to Positive Parenting. I really needed this. Each child has had a FULL meltdown in the past 48 hours. Tears, biting, kicking — you name it, we had it. I’m just frustrated beyond belief at points and I felt like I was fresh out of strategies.
Anyway, I came away with a goal to spend 10 minutes with each child on the days I don’t work. Sadly, on the days I DO work — that goal just isn’t attainable. I think that can have a lot of positive effects, and I’m excited to report back. I also liked her 5 R’s and the idea of “training” — but my goal will be the 10 minutes with each child.
