Cleaning. It’s such a pain, right? I know that my weekly cleaning schedule makes it all a lot easier, but I still want to cry a little bit when I’m SO tired and I still have to tidy up.
But there is ONE thing that makes it a WHOLE lot easier to get it done and get on with your day.
And that secret is having the stuff you need, on hand, at all times.
Wham-bam — that’s right — HAVE the stuff.
I know it’s super simple. Just like my best financial advice and how to save money posts — sometimes the very best advice is SO easy to follow, it seems dumb. But it’s not.
Because have you ever gone to wash dishes and there’s only the very dregs of soap at the bottom of the bottle. You can’t get it out to save your life. You squeeze and squeeze, only little bubbles foaming into the air….
Sure, you might flit on your way thinking dishes just don’t get done — but let’s face it, I doubt you’re going to throw your dinnerware away. At some point you’re going to have to clean it.
In the time that you did all that squeezing you could’ve had your dishes done! Instead you have crusty dishes and no dish soap.
I try to have a few very specific items on hand and some to spare as well. And I’m super lucky that most of those things were on sale at Costco on my last trip. I think the key is truly having the RIGHT stuff on hand. Makes cleaning SO much easier!
LOVE these Cascade Complete Action Pacs. First off, be SURE that these are out of kid’s reach (to small eyes and hands they can look like candy) …. but they are SO much easier than my horrible aim to get the detergent in the right spot in the door. I’m HORRIBLE at it! LOVE popping these in the spot. I think they do a GREAT job at cleaning dishes, and I always use a little vinegar in the rinse aid spot. Does a great job! Hint: Just make sure you have dry hands when you touch these, if your hands are wet they can stick and be annoying.
Yup, get the crappy brand of dish liquid and you’ll be at the sink twice as long. I always hand wash my pots and pants, so I still spend a lot of time with dish liquid. I love the good stuff, like Dawn Platinum Advanced Power. No need for soaking time, get it done NOW!
Let’s just say I love GIANT rolls of toilet paper. I HATE it when my kids leave an empty tube with no other TP in sight in our bathrooms. Having a large roll, like the ones from Charmin Ultra Soft, makes it less likely that will happen. Because, let’s face it — what THIS cleans needs to be cleaned right away. 😉
Ok, I wasn’t going to buy this until I read what it does. It’s like deodorant for your clothes. I love in Arizona with two teen boys. OMG, they smell SO bad after a bike ride. I want to throw up instead of sitting on the couch by them. Deodorant for their clothes is something that was calling my name so loud. I will say Downy Fresh Protect gives a “fresh” scent to your clothes, but it does do wonders for the sweat effect. Not nearly as bad. Now, I need deodorant for their hair. #nasty
I hate regular paper towels. There I said it. I’m the kind of girl that only wants the exact amount for each job. I absolutely LOVE the select a size for my paper towels, and getting a bunch at Costco eliminates my worry that we’ll run out for a few months. #happy Plus, the Bounty Advanced ones are SO absorbent. They do the job of two regular paper towels.
The stinky boys sometimes have to be transported places. I just couldn’t pass this stuff up for the summer. I think we all know what I’m talking about. 🙂 These Febreze CARVent Clip on your air vent and last 4 months (thanks to Arizona summers, I’m glad I got a 4 pack).
So, that’s what I put in my cart at Costco. Don’t you feel more at ease having enough product? I’m not saying that you need to buy twelve of everything, but I think having a stock of the things you need most eliminates a lot of stress at your house. Plus, finding the best products to do the job just makes everything easier!
So, make a list of what you can’t do without and grab some back-ups for the next time you’re running low. The key is also remembering to add it to your grocery list when you’re on your last item. Grab them at Costco!
