Wanting to stay healthy this winter?
This post is going to give you some tips from a nurse about how to stay healthy and happy this winter.
After all, if you don’t have your health, what do you have? 🙂
Ways to Stay Healthy:
I think these are pretty under-used and SO helpful. I often get the tiny yogurt drinks at Costco. I don’t really think there is a need to take it daily, but I try to down one once a week.
You can also eat fermented foods as that’s full of good bacteria as well.
If you’ve taken antibiotics for some reason, I try to take probiotics for at least a week following it to help build up the good bacteria in your system.
We have to get out of the mindset that bacteria are bad. They’re great — keep the good ones in your system!
Even though it’s winter, getting out to get some fresh air can do you a world of good. Do some quick videos via youtube ( I love PopSugar workouts — she’s very peppy). There are a lot of options even if you don’t want to get a gym membership!
Wash Your Hands
This probably should have been #1.
I want to be VERY clear that you do NOT need antibacterial soap in order to keep your hands germ free.
The majority of having clean hands comes from the scrubbing process and the chemicals found in soap plus the rinsing of the water.
NOT from the nasty antibacterial stuff.
I made some castile soap really easily that smells so good and I love it!
You need to wash your hands for about 20 seconds — or long enough to sing Happy Birthday a couple of times. Be sure to get under your nails as well.
I am a big believer in essential oils.
I often have a wellness blend going in my diffuser during the winter. Especially at breakfast time, I feel like it helps give my kids a fighting chance to whatever they’re going to come in contact with at school. 🙂
You can learn more about my favorite essential oils for families.
I am a big believer in Zicam. For colds, when taken early. I know they’ve had a bad rep in the past, but it has saved my bacon a few times, for sure. If anything I really do think it lessens the blow and/or the duration of the illness.
Stay Healthy AND HAPPY
It can be really easy to slip into a bad mind frame during the winter. And it can be easy to disregard yourself. But, you need to make happiness a priority!
A few tips for staying happy:
Use a SAD lamp if you feel like you’re not getting enough sunshine.
Try to get out into the fresh air when weather permits.
Use your oil diffuser with an oil like orange (or any scent you like) to help the atmosphere in your home (orange oils are supposed to help with depression).
