So, remember how I finally landed on being a Type 3℠. Yeah, so I went to the thrift store and I was gettin’ all into it…. really.
Wait, let’s rewind.

My husband has quit his job, and while I am excited for the opportunities that is going to create for our family, I also found myself depressed at the thought of leaving, moving and all that entails. It was a lot. I’d be in my PJ’s at 1 pm after a morning of blogging and have zero desire to do anything about it, so I’d go to the kitchen and get a snack, or two or three.
That was extra depressing as I worked SO hard to try to be fit at the beginning of the year.
My birthday and mothers day was approaching and I knew I needed something to take me off the couch and make me feel more myself. I am a BIG believer in getting up and getting dressed and being ready to face the day with a smile. Lara had always loved Dressing Your Truth ® and swore that it would help me thrift store faster. I knew I didn’t want “stuff” because I might have to pack up said “stuff” and I didn’t want to do that. Dressing Your Truth just had changed their course and it looked new and exciting, so I asked for that.
And the change has been REALLY good. I’m getting dressed, and feeling good about myself and my future. It is amazing what feeling good about how you look will do for your day. I’m no longer downing an entire container of Trader Joe’s snacks before the kids come home while watching “The Good Wife”. I really liked thinking about what I was going to wear and how it would make me look. Then, I’m ready to put THAT person into the day.
You can check my Instagram account for a few of my outfits. But, the necklaces were killing me. Yesterday I wore my new shoes and something just seemed off. Even though they’re cute!
As an affiliate blogger with Dressing Your Truth, Carol Tuttle had seen my site and offered to Skype with me. Now, I had been watching her videos for a few days and I kind of felt like she was a rockstar, and I was excited at that opportunity. *As an aside, she offered to skype the morning after I had my pity party. I was worried that she might make my mood even worse, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Carol is genuine, she really feels this is her “calling” to help people be true to who they are. It’s true, in some of her shows and videos I may have thought she was a little crazy — but I think she’s just really found her niche. Sometimes people who really have found their calling tend to be that way — like me and vaginas. 🙂 Wait, did I just type that? I ended up REALLY liking her. She really “gets” people.
Anywho — so we get on to skype. She asks where I live and a few things about my blog (which she has obviously seen). Now, Carol doesn’t usually type people. In fact, I’m glad she doesn’t. The Beauty Profiling system really made me think about who I am and who I want to portray to the world that I am. I, however, was still feeling REALLY conflicted. I said that I think I’m a Type 3, but I see a lot of 1 and 4 in me. And she said HA, yeah — there IS a lot of one and four in you. {crickets}
Me — “oh yeah?”
Carol – “Ok, let’s look at your blog, Hilary.” — go ahead, check out my header and my menu bar {if you’re on mobile, I’m sorry — check out my desktop site sometime} (btw, I totally design my site on my own, so it is EXACTLY how I want it). The rainbow of curls, “live, laugh, learn” being my tagline. The random nature of my menu bar plus the rainbow of colors.
I am a Type One.
{Note: a lot of the rest of this entry is not going to make sense if you have not taken the energy-typing course, I totally recommend it and it is completely free! — you’ll get to know yourself better and see people around you in a new way!}
Type One’s with a VERY strong secondary 4 (which I do have) tend to pull their energy into what LOOKS like a Type 3 from the outside. I am so animated, with so much energy and movement — but the Type 4 in me channels that into an intensity to a singular goal that seems like a Type 3. I like how she described it. I have focus with a lightness (which is true, I really like to have fun while I work), and true Type 3’s will have a focus with intensity. Does that make sense to you guys? I’ll say OK — let’s get this done and then dance around and then run off and do it. That’s completely me. Ask people who work PTO with me — my meetings are focused and funny. I’ll have a nice laugh and then move to agenda item #2. My obsession with timers is a Type 4 thing.
Type 1 kind of took me back. I’m NOT bubbly. I’m sarcastic and witty. I AM animated, but I’m not a giggly girl. I’m not what I envisioned a Type 1 to be. But, I am the type one I am. I’m slowly learning more about who I naturally am.
So, what are some things I noticed were “wrong” with the Type I initially identified with:
1. I couldn’t stand the chunky necklaces. I felt like a hot air balloon tethered to the ground. Seriously, WHILE talking to her I took my necklace off.

2. I literally had like 2 things in my ENTIRE closet to wear that would’ve fit Type 3. I have so much Navy with stripes it’s not even funny. Don’t worry — I ran down and rescued all those clothes from my Goodwill box and caressed them lovingly.
3. I still couldn’t understand how my extreme sense of humor factored into Type 3. I think that is probably what most of my friends would say about me, is that I’m funny and fun to be around. They might then say that I get a lot done and I overdo my schedule sometimes. Think about that — funny (Type 1) and focused (Type 4). Haha, I just got an email that says: “you make things lighter and more fun wherever you go.” Yup, Type 1 to a T.
4. My skin doesn’t have a line on it. I look like a lot younger than I am. That is NOT a Type 3 feature.
Carol said this happens frequent enough that she has a video about it.
A lightbulb for me at about 2 minutes! 🙂 Then there’s more about me just after 4 minutes.

Carol said that she had looked at my thrifting post and almost all of what I bought is also Type 1. In fact, I have a shirt full of hearts today. I feel really happy in it. I feel lighter and more true. I’m also reading The Child Whisperer and it is interesting to see how I view it now that I know myself better. I’ll be headed back to the thrift store in a few days with my new Type 1 card to see what new things I can find. Stay tuned….

I guess my advice is that if you feel conflicted about what Type you are, and you’ve tried out a Type for a while — don’t give up! Go back to facial features. Apple cheeks, not a line on your face. You’re a Type 1. If you feel strongly that you typed yourself wrong you can email customer service and they can switch you over.
Anyway, I’m light and animated. How YOU doin’?

Is navy striped shirts a type 1 thing? I also have a pretty big obsession with those… And a few days ago I was looking at my hanging clothes and I realized everything I buy is either navy or coral with a side of grey.
Hilary says
Stripes are a type 4, and navy is a type 1. Haha, navy is type 3. I had a bit of grey. I have heard that 1’s can wear heather grey, although I haven’t heard that in the course as of yet. You should try the energy type course, Lindsay!

I knew it!!!! Yea!!!
Hilary says
Haha, you sure did! Do you do DYT Rachelle?
Rachelle says
Kinda. I’m a Type 4, and I like to dress it, but I’m not a purist.
Hilary says
Haha, not a purist. 🙂 I probably won’t be either. 😉
